It is getting evident that a different approach to the architecture of Software defined networks (SDN) is required for telco’s networks and distributed large enterprise networks as compared to the SDN controller architecture for data centers. The specifics of these networks’ infrastructure, remote regions and branches connection types, the traffic volume, the QoS requirements – are among a few factors that grant this unique approach and need to be considered in creating the relevant SDN architecture for telco’s and large enterprise’ networks.
“When we developed our controller we relied on higher requirements from operators for performance and availability of the controller, possibility of creation of a physically distributed solution with a logically centralized management system”, Alex Rumyankov said, Chief of Product, Brain4Net. “We also considered cases of terminate connection between the controller and network devices. Our controller can be embedded to operators’ NFV farm for the management of traffic switching in the dynamic service chaining.”
B4N Controller works in in-band and out-of-band modes. Solution can be implemented on IP-MPLS networks of telcos, service providers, distributed networks of large enterprises. Controller may be used as a replacement for IP-MPLS solutions. It helps to avoid vendor lock-in and significantly reduces CAPEX and OPEX.
The controller has a broad compatibility list of switches that support Openflow version 1.3 and 1.4. The solution includes many applications such as fast failover, automatic balancing of routes and QoS. The following controller’s functions are built on the patented algorithms: P2P tunnels, L2VPN and handling multicast.
“B4N Controller is the first element we are presenting. It is part of our B4N Network Service Platform. The platform comprises a set of SDN and NFV solutions including Orchestrator, NFV Farm, B4N IP/MPLS integration module and SWOS (operation system for OpenFlow switches). We are planning the release of all components of our solution in the next 3 months”, noted Oleg Schapov, CEO Brain4Net.
Currently the company is doing several PoC on B4N Controller with big telcos and large enterprises, and plans to launch commercial projects in the nearest time.
